Question   Enjoyed your site
I have just spent most of this morning enjoying your photos. They are stunning, you are a true artist with a wonderful eye. I am like yourself and took up photography as a hobby when I retired. I also use Nikon equipment and print with an Epson 2400. Will keep your site on my favourite list.

Question   CAMERA TYPE AND LENS TYPE
I'm in love with your work! You shoot what beauty really is all about. What lens and body are you using normally when you shoot out doors? I have a Nikon 35MM SLR wishing to upgrade to their digtal one now which I hope my lens will work with. I have teleophoto, wide angle, mirco lens, lens colors. Any advice would be truly appriciated :0) Your the best at what you do. Keep sharing the beauty we have though the lens

Answer Thanks for the kind words Doreen. I currently shoot with the Nikon D2x for my color work and with an IR converted D1x for the Infrared work. Before digital I shot transparencies with a Nikon 8008 (still have two gathering dust). I have a variety of lenses ranging from the 10.5 Nikon Fisheye( DX) to the Nikon 80-400 Zoom. Some of the newer Nikon lenses are quite remarkable. For example when traveling I attach the 18-200 Zoom to my D2x and rarely take it off...an excellent all purpose lens. I still have a 105 Nikon macro left from film days that doesn't get used much anymore as my "belly shot" flower days are behind me...too hard to get up!
I have a couple of fun cameras, ..Panasonic and Canon P/S. Hope this helps.

Great Gallery Howard.
I do enjoy your abstract work, I agree there is a fine line when to stop working on an image. I love the dig. darkroom and the creative process.
Your work in an inspiration to me.

Question   overall impression
A beautiful body of work. Especially enjoyed the digital art. Would be very intested in software and technique used to create them.

Very impressive.

- Dale Hardin 8/4/2006 8:21:40 AM

Answer I use Photoshop CS2 and Corel Painter IX.5. As far as technique, I can only say that I don't generally have any plan of action, rather I let the concept develop as I work in Photoshop. And most times knowing when to stop is very critical. If you know PS, you begin to use familiar steps and filters that have developed from previous experiments. Some become second nature. Let you imagination wander!

Question   What an eye for Impact
Can you tell me do you shoot RAW & convert to TIFF? Or are you staying with JPEG because of web display? I understand that JPEG is not the optimum selection for printing. And do you use a service for any of your printing? Or do you have a favorite printer?

- Rich Collins 8/4/2006 6:12:17 AM

Answer I generally shoot RAW, work and save in Photoshop(PSD) format. I would use TIFF(or JPEG) if the file were to be used elsewhere. The format would depend on the use. Small JPEGS are used for mail, BetterPhoto, etc. I do my own printing with an Epson 2400 in Photoshop CS2.

Where is your beautiful shot of Havasu Falls and the Lightning shot over Grand Canyon? Enjoyed them all but missed these two gems!

  Answer Hi Rowland,

Thanks for the visit! Hope things are well. To answer your question, I've not caught up to all my photos yet. Keep looking! they will eventually find there way to the site.
